A passion for travel

The MSC Conway-Fitzhugh International Honors Leadership Seminar was established in 1992 by Thomas Fitzhugh III ’71 in honor of his father, Champe Fitzhugh, Jr. Tom served as MSC President, was a National Merit Scholar, and has a passion for international travel and history.  His academic success and interests helped him achieve professional and personal success, and his experiences in the MSC and at Texas A&M inspired in him a desire to offer other students opportunities for their own personal and academic growth.

The Conway-Fitzhugh Seminar, which is a collaborative effort between the Memorial Student Center, the LAUNCH program, the Education Abroad Programs Office, the Texas A&M University Santa Chiara Study Center, and Former Students Dr. Patrick Conway ’96 and Thomas Fitzhugh ’71,  is designed to prepare incoming freshmen to maximize the educational opportunities at Texas A&M University.

Program Benefits

The benefits of the program are plentiful, with the development that comes from learning about and living in a different culture being the most obvious benefit. While in Italy, however, seminar participants will participate in activities designed to:

  • Give students a greater understanding of the benefits of serving in student leadership positions in the Memorial Student Center, Student Government Association, and other Texas A&M organizations

  • Teach students the skills and habits they will need to succeed academically and maintain their honors status;

  • Understand the opportunities for conducting Undergraduate Research; and

  • Plant the seed for further Education Abroad experiences.

Additionally, students will be enrolled in a zero credit hour undergraduate studies course (UGST 181) through their participation in the Conway-Fitzhugh Seminar.
