Is there an interview as part of the selection process?

No. The selection committee bases their selection completely on the application you submit.

Do you accept applications after the deadline?

No. Since the deadline does take place on a weekend. If you are concerned about technical difficulties in your submission, we encourage you to submit your application during business hours so that you may call if you need assistance.

Can I email in my application?

No. Applications are only accepted through the Study Abroad portal.

Do I need to have committed to attend Texas A&M to apply to the Conway-Fitzhugh International Honors Leadership Seminar?

No. If Texas A&M has accepted you and have been invited to apply, please apply. However, you must accept your admission to Texas A&M before confirming your selection to this program.

Do you provide financial assistance to students selected for the seminar?

All students selected for the seminar will receive a discount of approximately $2,000 that is generously underwritten by donors each year. This leaves a balance of $3,600 for travel that students are expected to cover. Three installment payment dates in three separate months are provided to aid in payment for the trip.

Can I use my 429 Plan or other pre-paid plans to cover the cost of this trip?

Student Business Services would be the best place to get an answer to that question. (979) 847-3337 However, they tell us that since there is not a credit-bearing course associated with this study abroad, that many pre-pay plans will not be accessible to fund this trip. Coverdell ESA’s and other plans that allow for “related educational expenses” might provide funding for this trip. Please discuss your options with Student Business Services and your tax professional.

Can I use my scholarship money that is granted for Study Abroad to fund this trip?

Most study abroad specific scholarship funds only apply to credit-bearing courses associated with the study abroad. Since this trip does not have a credit-bearing element, your scholarship funds most likely do not apply. Please discuss with Financial Aid if you have more questions about how your scholarship funds can be used. (979) 845-3236

Do you provide dietary or physical accommodations for participants?

Unfortunately only limited dietary accommodations are possible in Italy. Italy is not ADA compliant and can cause significant mobility challenges for students who need physical accommodations. For more questions, please discuss this with Student Disability Services. (979) 845-1637

Can I schedule personal travel in Europe for before or after the seminar for which I travel separately?

No. The program begins and concludes at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. Short of an emergency, you will not be able to travel separately from the group during this time.
